Follow These Steps After A Motorcycle Accident

The minutes after a crash are disorienting. This order of operations, from Metier Motorcycle Lawyers, is built to protect your health first and your claim second, because both matter.

  1. Prioritize Safety First - If you're able to move, get yourself and your motorcycle out of the flow of traffic. Turn on hazard lights or use flares and warning triangles if available. Your safety and the safety of others on the road comes first.
  2. Call 911 Immediately - Even if injuries seem minor, request police and medical response. Motorcycle injuries are often more serious than they initially appear, and a police report creates an official record that will be essential for any insurance claim or legal case.
  3. Seek Medical Attention, Even If You Feel Fine - Adrenaline can mask pain and injury symptoms for hours or even days. Get evaluated by a medical professional as soon as possible. This protects your health and creates a documented medical record connecting your injuries to the accident.
  4. Document Everything - If you're physically able:
    1. Take photos of your motorcycle, the other vehicle or vehicles, road conditions, skid marks, and any visible injuries
    2. Photograph the accident scene from multiple angles
