Two Motorcycle Injuries in One Day on Highway 40 West of Lawrence

Two Lawrence men were injured in separate motorcycle accidents on U.S. Highway 40 West of Lawrence on Monday, July 18, 2011.

The first motorcycle accident occurred at 7:10 a.m. about one mile east of the Shawnee. Clinton C Marker Jr., 61, was headed west on his 2010 Honda motorcycle when he struck the trailer of a semitrailer. Marker was attempting to pass the semitrailer in a no passing zone when the collision occurred. The driver of the trailer, Thomas M. Clark, 28, of Lecompton, was not injured in the accident.

Marker was injured and transported by ambulance to the Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka, KS.

The second motorcycle accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. about six miles west of Lawrence. John Robert Sinclair was also headed west on Highway 40, riding a 1994 Yamaha motorcycle, when he lost control of his vehicle. The motorcycle came to rest in the west ditch of Highway 40 and no other vehicles were involved in the accident. Sinclair was injured at the scene and was also transported to the Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center.

The condition of both riders in unknown at this time and authorities are investigating both accidents.
