Roadways in Fort Collins, CO Under Accident Alert Status

According to the Collegian Central, temperatures fell down to the single digits in Fort Collins, Colorado, the site of recent roadway accidents. As a consequence, police placed the city on accident alert due to slick roads and snow. The accident alert status applies mostly to those involved in minor accidents in which neither party is seriously injured or under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Those involved in minor accidents were told to mail their accident reports to the police station so that the police could focus their efforts on serious collisions. Police recommended that drivers and motorcyclists “reduce speed, leave extra space between vehicles, and avoid making last minute decisions.” The accident alert was well intentioned, as there was a recent motorcycle crash in southeast Fort Collins. 28-Year-Old Dies in Las Vegas Motorcycle Accident

On the eve of Thanksgiving, a 28-year-old Las Vegas motorcyclist was riding north on Centennial Center Boulevard in a 2011 Yamaha R1. Either defective parts or unsafe road conditions led to a loss of control just south of Azure Drive. The R1 swerved to the right and collided with a palm tree, killing the rider. This was the 98th death involving a vehicle of 2013 in Las Vegas. Motorcycle accident fatalities have been on the rise. Last year, only 16 individuals died between the months of January and October. In 2013, there were 20 motorcycle accident fatalities in the 10-month period. Compared to 2011, which only had 13, the increase appears to be a growing trend.
