Fort Collins, Colorado was originally a military outpost for the U.S. Army established in 1864. In 1866, the area got its first school and church, and the following year, the fort was decommissioned. Fort Collins is the fourth largest city in Colorado with a population of 143,986, according to the 2010 census. Fort Collins was one of four communities in the United States to be designated as a Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists in 2013. The city has more than 280 miles of designated bikeways. There’s even the Fort Collins Bicycle Library, which lends bicycles to visitors, students and residents so that they can explore the city through self-guided tours, such as the Brewery Tour, Environmental Learning Tour and Historic Tour.
