Man Charged Following Fatal Colorado Springs Car Accident

A September 28 car accident left a 21-year-old woman dead and a 24-year-old charged with vehicular homicide, according to CBS 11 News in Colorado Springs. The nighttime accident happened at the intersection of Barnes Road and Iron Horse Trail.

The 21-year-old was driving her Kia SUV east on Barnes prior to the accident. As she turned left to head north on Iron Horse Trail, a Toyota 4Runner being driven by a 24-year-old man heading west on Barnes hit the side of her SUV. The collision forced the 4Runner to rollover.

The 21-year-old died on the scene. The 24-year-old driver and two other passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. According to the witnesses who talked to CBS 11 News, the accident scene was very gruesome.

“You don’t hear those kinds of screams every day,” a witness told 11 News.

As a result of an investigation by Colorado Springs police into whether the 24-year-old was drunk at the time of the accident, he was charged with vehicular homicide. At the time of this report, he had been placed in the El Paso County CJC with a $25,000 bond.
