According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Bill Beckwith, the host of the HGTV home-improvement television program “Curb Appeal,” died in a motorcycle accident on December 2. Beckwith, a carpenter and contractor, was riding near Oak and Steiner Streets when a 30-year-old motorist collided with him around 8:30 p.m. Paramedics escorted the victim to San Francisco General Hospital where he died of his injuries.
Family and friends found it difficult to believe that someone so well-traveled could die just a few blocks from his own home. Many hoped that the death was merely another one of Beckwith’s elaborate practical jokes and he was “up there smiling and laughing, knowing that the joke’s on us.” A representative of HGTV stated that “we mourn his loss along with his many family and friends who will miss his creativity, adventurous spirit and general love of life.”
