Firefighter’s Home Destroyed in Fire

The house fire occurred near Liberty City Limit less than three hours after the fire department responded to reports of another fire at the same address.

Firefighters were initially called to the home about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2011 for a small fire in a back yard shed. The crews put out the fire and cleared the scene. Crews were called back to the scene at about 4:45 a.m. to find the entire house engulfed in flames.

The owner of the home, also a firefighter, was home but escaped to safety. The roof caved in shortly after the fire department returned to the scene. Other occupants of the home were out of town and there were no injuries or fatalities.

The house was located more than one mile from the nearest hydrant so they had to transport water to the scene. Investigators were working at the scene to determine how the fire started. Firefighters were also looking into reports that fireworks were going off in the area.

The owner of the property remains unidentified at this time.
