Drunk Driver Kills Girl And Her Boyfriend On Their Motorcycle

According to 60 minutes, drunk driving is responsible for the death of 13,000 Americans a year. That is a staggering number. Moreover, it does not appear to be going down, despite all the various efforts at education and enforcement.

Just a few weeks ago, a drunk driver killed an 18-year old Nebraska girl and her boyfriend while they were riding home on their motorcycle. Authorities arrested the man who hit them on two counts of homicide and one count of second-offense driving under the influence of alcohol in the crash.

Lexi Calfee grew up riding motorcycles. Her boyfriend, 20-year old Chris Oberg, was driving them both back to Wayne State College at 6:30 p.m. when the accident happened. He was attempting to get them home before dark, in order to be safer. The lack of darkness did not prevent 55-year old Robert Mahler from being drunk at nearly twice the legal limit.

It is sad to think that you can do everything right, follow all safety precautions, and still lose your life to the negligence of another. Drunk driving is incredibly destructive. Have you been injured by a drunk driver? Please share your experience with others by commenting below.
